a while back i won a giveaway over at 'm is for make', some of the sweet storyboek fabric from birch fabrics, i set it aside not quite sure what to use it for at the time, then when a friend very recently had a little baby boy i knew i wanted to make him something using these fabrics, they are just perfect for a mini baby quilt,
i set about making this quilt in my usual way, having a vague idea of how i wanted it to turn out, then letting it evolve along the way, i added some blue striped fabric i had in my stash & used some blue checked fabric for the backing, i very luckily had some wadding in just the right size, the so they whole thing came together quite quickly, the binding was made from some natural linen left over from a past project {i also discovered that i really need to get myself a bias making tool - something else to add to the christmas list!}
What a beautiful quilt, I admire greatly people who quilt. My mother-in-law does amazing patchwork. I'd love to try it, but I'm afraid my slap dash ways probably wouldn't suit. I'm also dreadful at planning so all in all I should probably leave it to someone else!
ReplyDeleteThat looks really cute and cosy. Sure it will be received with great pleasure. x
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks lovely. I've just started blogging and have made a few quilts and I'm slowly uploading pics to share.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your friend will love it.

That quilt is really delightful. I've eyed off that range before as I thought it was especially cute but simple and understated. The linen binding just finishes it off perfectly. Also love that shawl a few posts back - stunning!

I make so much bias tape - I have two sizes - but for quilt binding I just love the tutorial at Don't look now http://dontlooknow.typepad.com/dont_look_now/2008/10/the-ins-and-outs-of-bindings.html it changed my quilt binding experience for life! I'm having a festive tutorial and giveaway tomorrow - I hope you will be able to join in.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric, and your work too :)
ReplyDeleteYou put me to shame!I have had a patchwork blanket half made for yonks, and I just cant find that final push to wad, edge, and back it. Yours is so perfect, I'm not sure mine would look so neat!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely.
