my kind of treasure

a little visit to a local charity shop came up trumps yesterday

this rather large pot of buttons was taped shut, so i couldn't get a peek inside, but at only £2 i thought it worth a shot

how right i was

it is chocked full of buttony goodness

i've barely made a dent in sorting through it but have found many treasures of the button kind & spent some time thinking on where these buttons may have been in the past & how someone else must have thought them to be their kind of treasure too

so long

- for now! we have picked up the keys to the new house & will be up early tomorrow, when the hard work will really start,

i am however rather miffed, as bt are going to take two whole weeks to hook us back up to the internet, so i shall be taking a rather unintentional break from the blog, which might turn out for the best as i really will have so much other stuff to get done!
*just a couple of photos of recent thrifty finds i think i had forgotten to share, a stash of sewing thread £1 & some vintage fabric only a £1*

back soon x

weekend potterings

we all love a good 'potter' in this house, just a little mooch about doing nothing much, well not really doing nothing, but more having nothing pressing to do, if that makes sense?
the last few days have slipped by me, January seems to be flying by, my granny blanket is coming along nicley, i've been getting itchy needles to start my lace project for Kate's adventures in lace knit along, i'd promised myself i'd get my tweedy drew finished beforehand, & finish it i did,
tweedy drew
but now it's finished i'm really not that happy with it, yes i love the yarn & it's keeping me warm, but i don't like the shape, it's not long enough & oops, i forgot to put the button hole in (which i only noticed after i'd sewn the whole blooming thing together!!!) so my trusty old kilt pin has come to the rescue, think i'm going to live with it for a few days & see how we pan out together i have in the mean time been perusing ravelry, just to see what else i could make with the amounts of yarn i have should things not work out)
we also took time to visit a few charity shops, where i was lucky enough to search out a couple of great fabric finds!

about half a yard of this lovely vintage floral fabric, i'm thinking maybe a sweet summer skirt for little O,

i also found this skirt, handmade in some amazing floral fabric

this is one very long skirt, loads of fabric, more than enough to make little O a dress from,

whoever this used to belong to must have been very tall with a teeny tiny waist (of course i couldn't resist trying it on!)
i'm off now to pop the kettle on for a pot of tea, to enjoy with the tasty apricot bars that should have just about cooled down to the perfect eating temperature by now, hope you're all enjoying a relaxing weekend.

back to work

after our lovely trip up to Sheffield to visit friends, i've found it a little hard to settle back into a routine, big G is back at school & i have no idea where we are with little O's day time naps, so my sewing time has been sporadic to say the least!
this photo was taken whilst we were away, on a walk we did up in the peaks,i've have been busy making things for the Christmas fair, but no photos yet, one thing i did manage to do was get back to the charity shop which had the wonderful tin full of buttons & found some time for a good rummage through & came home with a quite a few of the loveliest buttons i could find. ( all for only £1)i also received a lovely package of the fabric kind from here
i do have some plans for this but keep changing my mind - but for now it makes me happy just to look at it.

shame about the weather

what a change, day two of the rain & i've had enough already! i did mange to get out briefly yesterday, to drop a big bag of things off at the charity shop, luckily on my way out i had a little look for myself and came home with these lovelies, (& if little O had been in a better mood there would have been more buttons but she just wasn't having any of it)I have been busy, in the way that i often seem to have many knitting projects on the go at once, i now seem to be over using the sewing machine. I ran up a quilt top (cot / cot bed sized) & finally got round to making a start on my wonderland quilt top. Now this one has been a long time coming, mostly because i have changed my mind so many times about what i wanted to do with it!I have also been doing quite a lot of thinking & planning. The sailing themed set i made up last week was very well received, so much so that the mum in question has been encouraging me to have a stall at the schools Christmas fair. At first i just smiled & laughed the idea off, but it did get me thinking (mind racing with lots of ideas for different sets i could make), then when little O wore her skirt to a birthday party, the mums there made lots of positive comments (such as can you make my daughter one & i'd buy one of those!).

I've not committed myself yet, but i am seriously considering it.

oh & my tickets for the country living Christmas fair arrived today - i'm trying very hard not to get too excited about it just yet.

Car Booty

or credit crunch chic! we had a fun trip out to a car boot sale over the Easter weekend & i found bargains galore!
A cute 'accessorize' bag!, trust me, the last thing i need is more bags but at 50p i couldn't resist as i fell in love with the lining material!
A men's gingham shirt for 10p, which one day will hopefully become one of these
A robe/dressing gown for 25p !!!, i brought this thinking i would use the fabric, as there is so much of it, but this robe has been handmade & I'm having second thoughts about chopping it up.
Then i also found a top for 10p, again my first plan was to chop it up and use the fabric for something else, but this top fits me really well, so think this one will definitely stay as it is.
