another quilt

this is the quilt i finished off last week, if there hadn't been a delay in the {right size!} wadding arriving i would have probably finished it off last year, well when the right size did arrive i got stuck right in & finished it off within about 24 hours! {it's really rather a small sized quilt}
i tried out making the binding following a tutorial i'd found on pintrest, it really did work, although i did find it a little tricky at first, i'm sure after a few attempts you'd get the hang of it, the vintage sheets i used to make the quilt top were from 'little tea wagon' & had already been cut into squares for me, as was the fq of vintage flannel used to make the binding, then the dotty flannel on the back & the wadding both came from 'prints to polka dots' - which always seem to have lovely fabric at great prices {i am so in love with flannel, i'd really love to get my hands on some more Anna Maria Horner flannels - please message me if you know of any good uk sources}
i did some simple lines of quilting & machined the binding on & then added one of the sweet labels Laura had sent me, which i think finished it off perfectly!

my kind of treasure

a little visit to a local charity shop came up trumps yesterday

this rather large pot of buttons was taped shut, so i couldn't get a peek inside, but at only £2 i thought it worth a shot

how right i was

it is chocked full of buttony goodness

i've barely made a dent in sorting through it but have found many treasures of the button kind & spent some time thinking on where these buttons may have been in the past & how someone else must have thought them to be their kind of treasure too

weekend potterings

we all love a good 'potter' in this house, just a little mooch about doing nothing much, well not really doing nothing, but more having nothing pressing to do, if that makes sense?
the last few days have slipped by me, January seems to be flying by, my granny blanket is coming along nicley, i've been getting itchy needles to start my lace project for Kate's adventures in lace knit along, i'd promised myself i'd get my tweedy drew finished beforehand, & finish it i did,
tweedy drew
but now it's finished i'm really not that happy with it, yes i love the yarn & it's keeping me warm, but i don't like the shape, it's not long enough & oops, i forgot to put the button hole in (which i only noticed after i'd sewn the whole blooming thing together!!!) so my trusty old kilt pin has come to the rescue, think i'm going to live with it for a few days & see how we pan out together i have in the mean time been perusing ravelry, just to see what else i could make with the amounts of yarn i have should things not work out)
we also took time to visit a few charity shops, where i was lucky enough to search out a couple of great fabric finds!

about half a yard of this lovely vintage floral fabric, i'm thinking maybe a sweet summer skirt for little O,

i also found this skirt, handmade in some amazing floral fabric

this is one very long skirt, loads of fabric, more than enough to make little O a dress from,

whoever this used to belong to must have been very tall with a teeny tiny waist (of course i couldn't resist trying it on!)
i'm off now to pop the kettle on for a pot of tea, to enjoy with the tasty apricot bars that should have just about cooled down to the perfect eating temperature by now, hope you're all enjoying a relaxing weekend.

back to work

after our lovely trip up to Sheffield to visit friends, i've found it a little hard to settle back into a routine, big G is back at school & i have no idea where we are with little O's day time naps, so my sewing time has been sporadic to say the least!
this photo was taken whilst we were away, on a walk we did up in the peaks,i've have been busy making things for the Christmas fair, but no photos yet, one thing i did manage to do was get back to the charity shop which had the wonderful tin full of buttons & found some time for a good rummage through & came home with a quite a few of the loveliest buttons i could find. ( all for only £1)i also received a lovely package of the fabric kind from here
i do have some plans for this but keep changing my mind - but for now it makes me happy just to look at it.
